Race Day

The things that get forgotten. A race morning runs on a tight schedule in the cold and the dark, and the gear here is what keeps that from going wrong.

The essentials are the small ones: something to hold a bib properly, hand and toe warmers, spare straps and buckles, and a layer to pull on over a race suit between inspection and the start. Standing still in a suit is the coldest an athlete gets all day.

Pack the bag the night before, not the morning of. The single most common race-day problem is not missing equipment but equipment that is somewhere else.

See training apparel for warm-up layers, accessories for the rest, and boot and glove dryers for the evening after.
