Paste & Powder Wax

Pastes and powders are race-day products. They go on over a base that has already been prepared and waxed, in the last hour before a start, and they work on the top few microns where the base meets the snow.

Powders are applied and ironed or corked in; pastes rub on and buff out with no iron at all, which makes them practical at the top of a course. Both wear off quickly — a run or two in abrasive snow — which is the trade for the speed they add.

Neither one rescues a dry base. On an unprepared ski there is nothing for them to bond to and they disappear in a few gates.

Prepare first with ski wax, then finish with liquid wax or these. Corks and polishers are what you apply them with.
