Socks

Ski socks are the one layer between the foot and a race boot, and thicker is not warmer. A thin, well-fitted sock lets the boot do its job; a bulky one crowds the shell, cuts circulation and makes feet colder, not warmer.

Look for a sock cut specifically for skiing: flat seams at the toe, light cushioning at the shin and heel where the boot presses, and no bunching underfoot. Merino blends handle multiple days and resist odour, which matters on a race trip.

One pair per day is plenty. Two thin socks, or a sock plus a liner, usually makes a boot fit worse rather than better. If your feet are cold in a properly fitted boot, the answer is usually boot fitting work, not more sock.
