Base Cleaner & Conditioner

Bases pick up dirt, and dirt is slow. Spring snow, parking lots and early-season man-made surfaces all leave grime in the structure that no amount of fresh wax will fix, because wax cannot bond to a contaminated base.

There are two approaches. Base cleaner is fast and strips dirt chemically, but it also pulls wax out of the base and leaves it dry, so always re-wax immediately afterwards. Hot scraping — ironing in a soft wax and scraping it off warm — lifts dirt more gently and leaves the base in better condition. Most tuners prefer hot scraping and keep cleaner for genuinely dirty bases.

Either way, follow with several cycles of soft wax to put back what the cleaning removed.
