Where It Fits in Your Brushing
After scraping, open the structure with a stiffer brush, then finish with horsehair using light, overlapping tip-to-tail strokes. Clean the bristles regularly so old wax doesn't transfer back onto the base.
Why Finish With Horsehair
Horsehair is soft enough not to scratch the base but firm enough to lift the last fine wax particles out of the structure. It also helps reduce static, which can attract dirt in cold, dry snow. Racers usually finish every race wax and overlay with horsehair for the cleanest, fastest surface.
