The Artic SL in the Speedy Dolcezza graphic, reduced and down to a single size: XS-S, 51–54 cm. That is a small adult or junior head, so check a measurement before ordering — a tape around the widest part of the skull, just above the ears.
It is a slalom helmet, and it ships with the POC Maxilla breakaway chin guard rather than leaving that as a second purchase. For a racer moving up into slalom, that combination at this price is the least expensive route into a proper MIPS race helmet we stock.
The protection is layered, and each layer does a different job:
- MIPS Integra — rotational impact protection built into the shell rather than added as a separate liner
- Multi-impact EPP liner — stands up to repeated knocks, where single-impact foam degrades after the first one. Slalom delivers a lot of small hits
- VPD inserts — absorb the repeat minor impacts and keep the liner intact
- 360° fit system with adjustable ventilation
- Fidlock® buckle — operable with gloves on, which matters in a start gate
- POC Maxilla breakaway chin guard included
A breakaway guard is the detail worth understanding: it releases under a hard enough hit instead of driving the whole load into the shell, and it is the part slalom racers replace most often.
Which events does it cover? Slalom. From U14 up, GS, Super-G, downhill and Kombi require a helmet meeting the FIS standard, so a racer doing both disciplines will need a speed helmet as well. Rules are reviewed each season — confirm with your coach before a first start.
Fit decides everything else. A helmet should sit level, grip evenly with no pressure point, and leave no gap between your brow and the goggle. We fit helmets in the shop in Boise with your own goggles — worth doing, especially at one size remaining.
