A thinner, more flexible acrylic scraper at 1/8 inch — and the flexibility is the point rather than a compromise.
A thin scraper follows the contour of a base, which makes it better on the tip and tail where a ski curves, and in the hands of someone still learning it is much harder to gouge a base with. A thicker 1/4" scraper stays flat and cuts harder, which is what you want across the flat of the ski.

Scrape once the wax has cooled fully. Warm wax comes straight back out of the base — twenty minutes minimum, and longer is better. Work tip to tail in long strokes, with the scraper held at a consistent angle.
Keep it sharp. A dull scraper smears wax into the structure instead of lifting it off, which is the single most common reason a wax job disappoints. Sharpen every few pairs with a sharpener.
