SVST P-Tex Base Repair Candles 8mm

Drip-in P-Tex is the simplest way to fill a gouge, and the method most home tuners learn first. Light the candle, let it drip into the damage, let it cool, then scrape flush.

The trick is flame control. A candle burning with a large yellow flame deposits carbon into the repair, which is the black, crumbly stuff that falls out a week later. Keep the flame small and blue, hold the candle close to the base, and let it drip rather than run. A dedicated torch makes this much easier than a lighter.

Clean the gouge first. P-Tex will not bond to wax or dirt, so clean the area before repairing — a repair that pops out usually failed for this reason, not because of the material.

Overfill slightly, let it cool completely, then scrape flush with a steel scraper — a plastic scraper will not cut cured P-Tex.
