A scraper is only as good as its edge, and thickness is what keeps an edge straight. At ¼ inch this one stays flat against the base instead of flexing and following every contour — which is what thin scrapers do, and why they leave wax behind.

The notched corners earn their place. Wax builds up along the edge where a flat scraper cannot reach, and left there it collects dirt and interferes with edge work. The notches pull it out in the same pass.
Keep it sharp. This is the single biggest factor in a good wax job. A dull scraper stops cutting and starts smearing, pushing wax along the base and pressing it into the structure rather than removing it. Sharpen every few pairs with a scraper sharpener — it takes seconds and the difference is obvious.
Scrape while the wax is cool but not cold, in long strokes tip to tail, and follow with brushes to clear the structure.
