Cone baskets for downhill and Super-G poles. The cone shape is chosen for aerodynamics — at speed-event velocities a flat disc creates drag out at the end of a pole, which is the worst place to carry it.

Baskets are consumables. They crack, they wear, and they get pulled off in gates and lift queues. A pole with a missing or broken basket plunges too deep on a pole plant and changes the swing weight — small things, but ones a racer notices.
Cone or disc? Cones are for speed events. Disc baskets are used for slalom and GS, where aerodynamics matter less and a broader platform is more useful. Fitting the wrong one is not dangerous, just suboptimal.
Worth keeping a spare pair in the race bag — a basket that comes off the morning of a race is otherwise a problem with no solution.
