Why a disc for technical events: slalom and GS involve constant pole plants on firm, often injected snow, and a disc gives a consistent platform that stops the tip plunging. At the speeds of downhill and Super-G, drag becomes the bigger factor and a cone basket is used instead.
Replace them before they fail. A cracked basket lets the pole plunge inconsistently, which is exactly the kind of small surprise that costs a gate. They are inexpensive, and a racer who plants hard will go through several a season.
