Wax is chosen by snow temperature, not air temperature, and the two are frequently several degrees apart. A shaded course at 9am and the same slope at noon can hold very different snow under similar air readings.
- Quick, accurate Celsius readings
- Slim pen-sized body, pocketable
- Protective cover included
Celsius is the right scale here because every wax wrapper states its range in Celsius. Reading the snow in the same units the wax is labelled in removes a conversion step at exactly the moment you do not want one.
How to use it: push the probe into the snow in the shade, wait for the reading to settle, and take it where you will actually be skiing rather than in the car park. Take a second reading before the second run if the sun has moved.
For twenty-three dollars it removes most of the guesswork from wax selection, which is the part of tuning people most often get wrong.
