A petroleum-based solvent for stripping old, dirty wax off a base. The 16oz bottle is the home-bench size.

Cleaner is the fast option, and it comes with a cost worth understanding: it pulls wax out of the base as well as off it, leaving the structure dry. A cleaned base is not a prepared base — it is a base that needs several cycles of soft wax to put back what the solvent removed.

When to use cleaner, and when not to. Use it on a genuinely dirty base — spring grit, a summer of storage, a base that will not take wax. For routine cleaning, a hot scrape (iron in a soft wax and scrape it off warm, carrying the dirt with it) is gentler and leaves the base in better condition. Most tuners hot scrape by default and keep solvent for the bad cases.

Always re-wax immediately afterwards, and expect to need two or three cycles.
