A file made specifically for use in a guide — tang-less and wider than a standard file, which is what lets a 5 inch file cut like a 10 inch one.
The tang is the pointed shank a normal file has for a handle, and in a guide it is wasted length that does no cutting. Removing it means the whole file is working surface, so a short file spans a useful amount of edge while staying easy to control.
- Tang-less design, increased width
- Cutting performance comparable to a standard 10" file
- Hard-chromed for durability
- 5" length, for the SVST Pro Edge Beveler
- Favoured by World Cup tune technicians
Why the short length is an advantage in a guide: a long file overhangs the guide at both ends and is easy to tip, which changes the angle. A short, wide file stays supported through the stroke.
Files cut forward only. Lift on the return — dragging back dulls the teeth. Clean with a file card; clogged teeth are the usual reason a good file seems blunt.
Use with the Pro Edge Beveler and its thumb screw clamp.
