Coarse bronze does two jobs: prepares a base before waxing, and clears wax and debris after scraping. It is the more aggressive of the two bronze brushes and the better choice for hard, cold waxes.

Coarse or medium? Cold-weather waxes are hard and sit stubbornly in the structure, and coarse bronze clears them where medium has to work harder. In warm, soft wax the difference matters less. If you own one bronze brush, own medium; if you ski cold snow regularly, own both.
Where it sits: after scraping and before the fine brushes. Follow with horsehair and then nylon to polish — bronze alone leaves a base open and unfinished.
