A cross-country wax, not an alpine one — worth knowing before it goes on a GS ski.
Black is the dirty-snow option in the Marathon range. The additive that gives it the colour also reduces friction against impurities in the snow, which is the problem that defines late-season and low-altitude nordic racing: the surface carries grit, pine debris and pollen, and ordinary wax loads up with it.

Marathon waxes prioritise durability over peak glide, because a 50 km race is a different problem from a two-minute run. The wax has to still be there at the finish.
