The top of Swix's fluoro-free race line, the Top Speed Turbo (TST) series, and the one detail that sets it apart from the rest of the TS range: it is formulated for roto-wool application — Swix state that a waxing iron is not needed at all.
That changes the workflow. Instead of melting wax in, cooling, scraping and brushing out, the wax is worked into the base with a wool roto brush — faster, and the reason this sits at the finishing end of a race preparation rather than the base-building end.
The range by temperature:
- TST05 Turquoise — −8°C to −15°C (18°F to 5°F). The hardest in the line, for cold dry winter snow
- TST06 Blue — −4°C to −12°C (25°F to 10°F). Dry snow either side of freezing, strong acceleration
- TST07 Violet — −2°C to −8°C (28°F to 18°F). Dry snow below freezing, smooth and stable
- TST08 Red — −4°C to +4°C (25°F to 39°F). The most versatile, across mixed dry-snow conditions
- TST10 Yellow — 0°C to +10°C (32°F to 50°F). Wet, dirty or transformed snow, with added dirt resistance
Fluoro-free, and therefore race-legal under the US Ski & Snowboard prohibition on fluorocarbon waxes in sanctioned competition. That is the point of the TS system: it was built to replace fluorocarbon race waxes rather than to sit alongside them.
This is a race-day layer, not base preparation. It goes onto a base that has already been cleaned and saturated with training wax over several cycles. On a dry or tired base there is nothing for it to work into, which is the usual reason an expensive wax seems to do nothing.
You will need a wool roto brush to apply it properly. See also the TS Pro Top Speed Black for dirty and contaminated snow, and TS Top Speed Powder.
