A mixed-construction slalom pole: aluminium upper shaft, carbon Kevlar lower. That combination is deliberate — the lower shaft is where a slalom pole takes gate hits, and carbon Kevlar handles repeated impact better than aluminium, while the aluminium upper keeps the price down and adds forgiveness.

The Trigger S system is a safety feature as much as a convenience. The glove clips into the pole and releases under load, so a pole caught in a gate or a fall lets go instead of wrenching the wrist or thumb. It needs Trigger-compatible gloves or mittens to work — worth budgeting for together.
Slalom poles must be run with guards. You will hit every gate, and an unguarded pole plus a knuckle is a bad combination. See pole guards.
Sizing: slalom poles run shorter than GS poles for the same athlete. Grip it under the basket with the tip on the floor and look for roughly a right angle at the elbow.
