The 10 inch Superchrome — same hard-chromed Austrian file as the 12 inch, in the shorter length.
Rockwell 67 is the number that matters. Ski edges have got harder over the years, and a softer file glazes the edge instead of cutting it. Chroming adds durability and makes the stroke smoother.
- Hard-chromed for durability and smooth cutting action
- Handcrafted Austrian design
- Rockwell hardness 67
- 10 inch length
Why choose the 10 inch: it is easier to control, lighter in the hand for long sessions, and fits in a travel tuning kit where a 12 inch file will not. The longer file spans more edge per stroke and holds the angle better on a bench, so many tuners own both — 12 at home, 10 on the road.
Look after it. Files cut on the forward stroke only; dragging them back dulls the teeth. Clean with a file card, and store so the faces do not knock against other tools.
Use in a bevel guide and finish with stones.

SVST Superchrome File 10"
After watching video Beginner's Guide to File Sharpening an Axe (YouTube channel Bushcraft Sisyphus), I bought this file to replace an old, ineffective no-name brand file. This is an extraordinarily sharp file. I was able to put a wicked sharp edge on my splitting axe in no time. I also was able to quickly restore the edge on a garage sale splitting maul that had evidently been abused by someone who must have thought it was a tool for busting up concrete. At $20, this is a pricey file compared to those available in hardware stores, but worth every penny.

Maybe the Best Production File in the World
I actually use files to restore vintage edged tools like axes, adzes, chisels, etc. for resale to collectors and hobbyists. I also ski and am familiar with SVST files, but recently I decided to try them with my restorations work just for fun. They are incredible! Possibly among the best files out there on the level with Stella Bianca, F. Dick and other premium tools, including legendary vintage stuff you can't buy anymore. I couldn't be more thrilled. Worth every penny. lol

Amazing Files
Ran a snowboard shop a few years ago and these were the best files we could find for detuning and cleaning edges. Now I have a composites business and use these files for finish filing carbon fiber parts. Carbon quickly dulls the vast majority of cutting tools from bits to blades to files. These superchrome files hold up great and cut nicely. The safety edge is also key for my use. This just means there are no teeth on the sides.
