Yellow is the warm-weather wax, covering 36°F to 50°F — spring skiing, slush, and late-season training when the snow is wet through.

Warm waxes are softer, and softness is the point: wet snow holds free water, and a soft wax with the right additives sheds it instead of letting the ski suction to the surface.
