Base prep wax is what you put on a ski before it is ever raced on, and again whenever the base has dried out. BP77 is made for exactly two situations: new skis, and freshly stone-ground ones.
- Conditions new or freshly stone-ground bases
- Prepares the base for glide wax absorption
- Suited to colder climates and glacier training
- 180 g bar with instructions
A new ski leaves the factory dry. The base has open structure and nothing in it, and a hard race wax applied to that has very little to hold onto. Several cycles of a soft prep wax — iron in, cool completely, scrape, repeat — fill the structure so everything after it works.
The same applies after a stone grind. Grinding cuts fresh structure and leaves the base hot, dry and open; skipping prep afterwards wastes the grind.
Three or four cycles on a new pair, and a few more through a season. It is cheap per gram because you are meant to use a lot of it.
Then move to Swix race wax or training wax. See base prep wax.
