The middle of Swix's base prep range, and the one most people should own: 14°F to 32°F (−10°C to 0°C), which covers normal winter conditions.
- Conditions new or freshly stone-ground bases
- Temperature range 0°C to −10°C (32°F to 14°F)
- Also works as a travel wax
- 180 g bar
The Swix base prep ladder:
- BP77 — cold, below about 13°F. Glacier training and hard winter
- BP88 — 14°F to 32°F, the all-round choice (this wax)
- BP99 — above 33°F, the softest, and the one for hot-box work
Base prep waxes are deliberately soft with a low melting point, so they penetrate deep into the base rather than sitting on it. That is the whole job: fill the structure of a new or dried-out ski before any harder wax goes near it.
Use it in cycles — iron in, cool completely, scrape, brush, repeat. Three or four passes on a new pair, and a few more through the season. It is priced to be used generously.
Then move to race wax or training wax. See base prep wax.
