In slalom this is not optional equipment. You clear every gate with your hands, and a training day is several hundred impacts — without guards that is bruised, swollen hands within one session, and a racer who starts protecting themselves instead of taking the shortest line.

Guards and gloves do different jobs. The guard deflects the gate away from the hand; an armoured glove absorbs what still gets through. Slalom racers run both, and neither substitutes for the other.
Check they fit your grips before ordering. Guards mount to the grip, and grip shapes differ between brands and models — a guard that does not seat properly rotates on impact, which puts it somewhere other than between the gate and your hand.

These Swix pole guards fit perfectly on my sons race poles. Nicely made and fitted for a great end result.

Mounting hardware is VERY low quality
Fit and finish of the mounting hardware is horrific. The build in nuts within the pole guard will not accep the threading from the provided bolts. Since the nuts are built in you can't replace them so you up with either junk or a jurywrigged solution. I bought Swix pole guards to go with the Swix race poles I bought at the same time. Buying cheaper quality competitors product would have been a FAR better solution. Bad Swix!
