Stiff nylon is the versatile middle of the brush range — enough bite to clear wax after scraping, fine enough to start a polish, and safe on every wax type.
On an oval block, which carries more bristle and covers more base per pass than a rectangle, it becomes a high-output brush for anyone working through several pairs.

Where it fits: it can stand in for a bronze brush on softer waxes, then hand off to horsehair and soft nylon for the finish. For hard cold waxes you still want coarse bronze first — stiff nylon will not clear them fully.
Oval or rectangle? Oval blocks are larger, cover faster and cost more. A rectangle is the standard shape and perfectly adequate for one or two pairs at a time.
