Somewhere to put a hot iron that is not the bench, the ski, or the floor.
It sounds trivial until you have set a 150°C iron down on a wax table and come back to a scorch mark, or knocked one off the edge of a bench by its cord. An iron holder mounts to the table and keeps the iron upright, hot and out of the way.

Cord management is the underrated part. Most iron accidents are a cord catching rather than a misplaced hand, and having the iron in a fixed position keeps the cable routed the same way every time.
