Two materials on one radial block: brass through the middle to clean and structure the base, horsehair around the perimeter for anti-static polishing.
The anti-static part is the reason horsehair keeps its place. Static holds fine wax dust against the base; natural bristle does not generate it, so the base finishes genuinely clear instead of coated in the particles you just removed.

Where it fits: the middle of the sequence. Stiff nylon clears the bulk of the wax first, this brush cleans and opens the structure, and horsehair does the final polish.
A combi brush also stands in for two tools when travelling, which is why they end up in race bags. It is not a full substitute for a proper coarse-to-fine progression on a race-day tune, but it covers most of a training-night job.
Keep separate brushes for warm and cold waxes if you can. Brushes retain residue, and one used on soft warm wax will contaminate a cold-snow job.
